DB Precision Installation Before you begin using our product, we will send you a MARX Crypto-Box USB license key. This key plugs into a USB port on one of the computers on your network. It is used to store license information and is provided to you after you agree to begin the 3-month trial period. We will then provide you with copies of the DB Precision setup files as well as with 4 database backup files that can then be restored on your database server to enable you to run DB Precision. However, before beginning the installation process, please make sure that the machine that will be running DB Precision meets the following hardware and software requirements: Hardware Requirements Hard Drive: 25 MB of storage on each machine that will house the application. Recommended RAM: 1 GB RAM for XP machines, 2 GB RAM for Vista machines.
Software Requirements .NET Framework 3.5 SP1: you will need to install this on each machine that will be running DB Precision. To download the latest version from Microsoft, click here. Please note that this version of .Net does not need to be installed on the database server housing the DB Precision database. SQL Server Native Client Drivers: you will need to install this on each machine that will be running DB Precision. To download the latest version from Microsoft, click here for the 32-bit version (click here for the 64-bit version or here for the 64-bit Itanium version). Please note that this driver does not need to be installed on the database server housing the DB Precision database. Microsoft SQL Server: if DB Precision is being installed on a single machine, you can use the Express edition of SQL Server. This can be downloaded from Microsoft for free here. If you are using Express edition, you will also need to install SQL Server Management Studio Express. This can be downloaded here. If you are installing on a network with multiple users, it is recommended that you purchase the full version of SQL Server. To learn more about SQL Server, click here. MARX Crypto-Box Driver Files: to make sure that you have the latest MARX driver files, click here. These driver files must be installed on the machine that is housing the MARX USB key described above. CBIOSServer: if DB Precision is being installed on a network, you will need to download this program here and then start it as a service. This program broadcasts PensionSoft license information to other machines within your network so that DB Precision knows you have a valid license. It must be installed on the machine that houses the MARX USB security key described above.
Installation Steps 1) Database Creation: open SQL Server Management Studio or Management Studio Express (if running the Express version of SQL Server) and create the following 4 databases. Make sure that any network users that will be able to use DB Precision have read and write access to each of these four databases. Please note that all four databases may be located on the same server or each may reside on separate servers. PSCommon PSPrecision PSInternet PSArchive 2) Database Restore: right-click each newly created database (under the Databases tab) and select Tasks - Restore - Database from the resulting menu. Under Source for restore, select the From device option and then navigate to the install backup file for each database (provided to you by PensionSoft). Each backup file will correspond to each of the 4 databases named above. For example, for PSPrecision, you will want to restore the database PSPrecision using the file PSPrecision.bak. Repeat this process for all 4 databases. 3) Create ODBC File DSNs: each machine that will house DB Precision must have a file DSN for each of the 4 databases created above. These 4 files direct DB Precision to the location of each database. Copy all 4 files (provided by PensionSoft) into: XP: Program Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources Vista: Users\[User Name]\Documents 4) Configure File DSNs: open the ODBC Data Source Administrator from Windows by clicking Start - Control Panel and then, from within the Classic View of Control Panel, open Administrative Tools (double-click the Administrative Tools icon) and then double-click Data Sources (ODBC). Select the File DSN tab and then Configure one of the file DSNs created above by selecting the file and then pressing Configure. The only thing that you will need to change is server name found on the first page. This will correspond to the name of the machine housing SQL Server. If you are unsure of the exact database name, the easiest way to find this is by opening SQL Server Management Studio and copying from the Connect to Server screen the server name. Once you have entered the database name, press the finish button. Repeat this step for all 4 file DSNs. 5) Install DB Precision: run setup.exe provided to you by PensionSoft. 6) Launch DB Precision: once installation is complete, you will need to open DB Precision and log on to DB Precision. An admin account is included as part of the initial installation. To access this account, enter ADMIN1 for user name and admin for password. Press the question mark (?) button in the upper right hand corner and then press the help button. This will take you to the Getting Started topic of the contents tab and help guide you through using the system.
