Windows Access Error Fix
Instructions on how to resolve the error: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

When adding a second or subsequent user to a machine upon which DB Precision has already been installed, you may see the following error when first running DB Precision for that new user. In addition, the icon for the file c:\program files\pensionsoft\db precision\pension.exe will not appear as a hummingbird in Windows Explorer.

Windows error indicating that the specified device, path, or file cannot be accessed.

If you have received this error, do the following. Please note that you will need to have Windows Administrator rights to the computer with this problem.
  1. Copy the file c:\program files\pensionsoft\db precision\pension.exe to another folder that is not within the Windows Program Files folder (the user’s Documents folder for example).
  2. Rename the file to a temporary new name pension1.exe.
  3. Copy the renamed file pension1.exe back to the folder c:\program files\pensionsoft\db precision.
  4. Delete the file c:\program files\pensionsoft\db precision\pension.exe.
  5. Rename the temporary file pension1.exe back to pension.exe.

This process will explicitly re-authorize the file under Windows.
