DB Precision Installation Steps
Once you have signed our Software License Agreement (SLA), the process of installing DB Precision can broken down into 2 basic steps:

  • 1) Database Setup: DB Precision installation requires that your network includes a database server with Microsoft SQL Server installed. This Database Server will be used to house the DB Precision databases. After the SLA has been signed, we will provide you with copies of three database backup files. These files will be restored to your database server to provide you with the full database design.

The backup files that we will provide are specific to the version of SQL Server that you are using so we will first need to know the installed version of SQL Server that is on your network before sending to you. In addition, you will need to provide us with the full Database Server name (including instance name) as these will be written into the database backup for you before they are sent.
  • 2) DB Precision Setup: While DB Precision can also be installed on the Database Server, we recommend instead that each copy of DB Precision be installed on separate machines (Network Clients).

If DB Precision is not currently installed on your network, then you should first review the Network Configuration Overview (below) and confirm that the computers on your network meet the requirements as described here.

If DB Precision is already installed on your network and you simply want to add DB Precision to another Network Client, then skip to the section Network Client Installation.

Network Configuration Overview
DB Precision is installed using a client-server network configuration with the following components:
  • Database Server:  this machine houses the DB Precision database. This server may exist on its own machine or on a virtual desktop.
  • Network Clients: these are the machines that users of DB Precision utilize to access the application. These may each exist on their own machines or on virtual desktops.
  • Internet Controllers: these machines are virtually identical to network clients and have the same requirements, but because they control the connection between users and the PensionSoft Web Portal, they must be running at all times.

If your network has all of the necessary components and each machine has the necessary required items, begin by installing the Database Server.

For optimal performance, the Database Server and Network Clients should reside locally within your network. Connections to a remote database can reduce application speed and performance.

If the Database Server may not reside on the local network for DB Precision users, to ensure optimal performance, it is recommended that the Network Clients be installed on the same remote network that the Database Server is installed. Users would then need to connect to those Network Clients using a remote connection.
